Since I am so far behind I am forgoing the IMDB links and mini-reviews this batch–short descriptions will be provided.
Must See
Heima – A documentary by the band Sigur Rós.
Zombieland – A zombie comedy
Recommended
Mr. Smith Goes to Washington – boy scout leader becomes a senator, classic
Ben-Hur – Romans, Jews, betrayal, lepers – no, not Jesus, but he is in it
Harvey – A man sees a 6-foot bunny. Donnie Darko 50’s version?
Safety Last! – a 1920’s silent movie, not my favorite genre but one of my favorite of the genre
Good, but not Recommended
Leon: The Professional - Natalie Portman. 13 year old hitman(hitgirl?)
Les Triplettes de Belleville / The Triplets of Belleville - If you like odd movies and good animation, go for it; I probably just had too high of expectations.
The Godfather: Part II – De Niro owns. Pacino…eh
Meh
Shadow of a Doubt – not bad, just not really entertaining; starting to see I’m not a fan of Hitchcock
Psycho – see above
The Manchurian Candidate - Hypnotized assassin.
Rupan Sansei: Gurîn vs Reddo / Lupin III: Green vs. Red – almost a good character study–not what I want from a Lupin movie
Rupan Sansei vs Meitantei Conan / Lupin III vs. Detective Conan - my two favorite anime characters; unfortunately the storyline sucked–the integration of the two was good, however.
Duplicity – didn’t really pay too much attention. Julia Roberts is getting old.
Citizen Kane - some really nice cinematography–didn’t like the story.
Bonnie and Clyde - Faye Dunaway = Yum but the movie was boring
Unforgiven - Young Eastwood > Old Eastwood. Ending is ridiculous (not in a good way).
Atrocious
Singin’ in the Rain - The storyline wasn’t half bad, but for a musical all the music sucked. Also I just can’t get over one actress’ awful voice and the annoying faces they make when they dance.
Vuk / The Little Fox - How this ever had one of the highest ratings on IMDB for animated movies I’ll never know. I’m sure it was better uncut and in Hungarian, but I only had access to the edited English version. Dialogue and story sucked, hard.
M - Boring, as was Metropolis.
High Noon – Story was annoying and so were the characters–the lead male especially.
Not the best stretch of movies for me
